Cat Ba island is the largest of the 367 islands spanning 260 km2 (100 sq mi) in the South Eastern edge of Halong Bay. Cat Ba island is commonly used as an overnight hotel stop on tours to Ha Long Bay run by  some travel agents in Hanoi. Cat Ba is the largest island in the Bay and approximately half of its area is covered by a National Park and has grown rapidly and has become a tourist hub for both the Island and greater Ha Long Bay. 

Moving from Hanoi to Cat Ba was always a problem as the island is very isolated and no bridge has been built to connect the island with other parts. If traveler wish to go from Hanoi, they will have to go to Halong bay and get a ferry to Cat Ba island from Hai Phong city. Normally it will be 3.5 hours for the drive.

Bus 3: leaving Hanoi at 14.00 AM; reaching to Catba island at 18.00 AM.
